The pursuit to build the next dream home has led a Canberra couple to put their Kambah property on the market.

Maria and Alfred Alfano designed and built the house at 40 Crichton Crescent about six years ago following the Canberra bushfires.

Ms Alfano said the home had provided an escape as it was very private upon driving down the entrance to the block.

"Just the serenity, it's like your own little estate," she said.

The ACT government has approved the Observatory Living development for 270 apartments in the first Molonglo Valley suburb of Wright. It will be the largest multi-unit site in the suburb.

Construction will start on the Geocon project shortly and minor works have already begun at the site on John Gorton Drive.

Observatory Living will feature seven buildings ranging in height from four to six-storeys set among gardens landscaped by Durie Design with communal entertaining areas and walking tracks.

Geocon managing director Nick Georgalis said the presale target had been reached for the project and the largest take-up had been from first home buyers and people wanting to downsize to a large apartment.
