The mercury plummeted to 15 degrees in Brisbane on Sunday for the first time in 2019, which was described by the weather bureau as the River City's coldest morning since November 10.

The Bureau of Meteorology's March climate summary highlighted how hot it was in parts of the Sunshine State and the record-breaking rain relief brought by ex-Tropical Cyclone Trevor.

Last month Queensland's top temperatures were 1.62 degrees above average. The minimums were 2.03 degrees above average, the third-warmest on record for March, and the overall temperature was 1.83 degrees above average, the fifth-warmest on record for March.

The state's hottest day last month was on the 11th when Bedourie, in western Queensland, hit 44.1 degrees and the coldest day was the 27th when Toowoomba Airport dropped to 17.7 degrees.

Across the state, hot weather records tumbled as temperatures exceeded 40 degrees.

"From available records, it was the first time a site had recorded a daily maximum temperature at or above 40 degrees in the south-east coast district in March," the bureau said.

"On March 11, Gatton recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees and the following day, 41.1 degrees. Numerous sites in the south-east coast district exceeded a daily maximum temperature of 40 degrees, including Amberley with 41.3, Beaudesert with 40.2 and Archerfield with 40.2.

"Several other sites had their highest March temperature on record including Kingaroy with 37.7, Gayndah with 40.5, Barcaldine with 42.5 and Emerald with 41.7.

"Isisford Post Office [central Queensland] had a record run of five consecutive days at or above 40 from March 10 to 14 - [the] previous record was four days ending 21 March 2015.

"Longreach Aero [central Queensland] with five days at or above 40 from March 11 to 15 - [the] previous record was four days ending 21 March 2015.

"Taroom [west of the Wide Bay-Burnett] with three days at or above 40 from March 11 to 13 - [the] previous record was two days ending 20 March 2015."

Towards the end of March, Cyclone Trevor ripped through far north Queensland before returning to the Sunshine State and delivering much-needed rain.

Roller doors were left looking like a grinder had sliced through them after a shed was belted by wind gusts faster than 130km/h generated by Trevor.

A week later, Trevor had degraded into a low and turned around and residents of outback Queensland rejoiced as the wet weather swept through.

"Rainfall in Queensland was 45 per cent above average, and around 40 millimetres above the long-term average of 90 millimetres," the bureau said in its monthly climate summary.

"Rainfall was well above average in much of northern and western to central Queensland ... the high rainfall totals were associated with the passage Tropical Cyclone Trevor."

A long list of locations recorded their highest March daily rainfall totals.

On top was Lockhart River Airport, where TC Trevor made landfall, which received 302 millimetres on March 20, beating the previous record from 1969 when 268 millimetres fell.

Aurukun Shire Council, also in the state's far north, was second after recording 210 millimetres on March 21, beating the previous record from 1985 when 167 millimetres fell.

Talgai, south of Toowoomba, received 169 millimetres and beat its 1994 record, while the Gold Coast Seaway recorded 159 millimetres and beat its previous 2001 record.

Monday signalled the start of April. Brisbane's average maximum temperature for the month is 26.1.

Following last month's above-average temperatures, on the first day of April, the River City reached a top of 26.2 degrees, on-par with historical autumn climate.
