The woman, a driver for female-only ride-share organisation Shebah, made a report to Queensland Police about the threat over the weekend after the alleged incident on November 11.

Shebah, founded in March 2017 as a female-only ride-share service, has 400 drivers in Queensland, with its focus on providing safe transport for women and children.

Shebah founder George McEncroe said the driver was approached by a taxi driver in Toowoomba and told “I’m going to shoot you, tie you up and f--- you just like you’ve f---ed the cab industry.”

The Taxi Council of Queensland was contacted for comment.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said police were aware of the incident.

Ms McEncroe said the driver went to the police after thinking about the incident for several days and deciding to take a stand.

"There's a lot of our drivers who have had experiences in the past, they've put up with a lot of things, and I have said to drivers we just cannot tolerate violence against women," she said.

"We have to make a stand and it's really important we don't tolerate it."

Ms McEncroe said an unfortunate side-effect of Queensland's ride-share regulation, which requires drivers to advertise their operators on the front and back of vehicles, made Shebah's female drivers a target.

She said while the need for regulation was completely understandable, a single ride-share sign issued by the state government could prevent female drivers from being unfairly targeted.

"The Shebah sign just says 'hello, I'm a woman travelling alone, and my passenger is a woman'," she said.

"So it really exposes us and we do a lot of work taking women to family courts, into safe housing, we do a lot of work in foster care – we're travelling with women who are using our service often because they've had a traumatic experience in the past.

"We just want to be able to drive and say we're just like anyone else, so let's have some sensible revisiting of this need for multiple signs."

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey condemned the alleged incident.

"The violent and misogynistic comments allegedly made to a female driver in Toowoomba are appalling," he said.

"I would urge anyone who is subjected to, or witnesses this kind of behaviour to report it to police immediately.

"These are people just doing their jobs and no one should have to deal with that in their workplace."

Minister Bailey said the labels were designed to allow people to easily identify ride-share vehicles and ensure drivers were regulated appropriately.

"We will evaluate and monitor the ride-share legislation we introduced in 2016 and industry will have an opportunity to provide input as part of our review," he said.

"That review is expected to begin next year."
