Explosive exercises have already been completed by Queensland Police at a secret location.
Footage released by the Queensland Police Service on Thursday showed the explosion of buses.
The yellow and white buses, which have similarities to decommissioned Brisbane City Council buses, are shown bursting into flames.
There was also footage of police gaining access to a building and detaining a man as part of a training exercise.
A partnership between police and the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority will allow a former government building that is set for demolition to be the location of the next counter-terrorism training exercise.
Early demolition works have begun on the nine-storey Landcentre at Woolloongabba.
Queensland Police would not confirm the location of the exercise for operational reasons, but footage released by police of the area for exercise showed a sign that read “welcome to the Landcentre” with a Queensland government logo.
Police Counter Terror Command chief Peter Fleming said the video showed the broad range of capability that could be used to attack a terrorist event.
“We do this work primarily to keep the community safe,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner Fleming warned that residents in the area may hear what sounded like explosives or gunshots during the exercise.
“There are always safety officers appointed for any types of these exercises; the building will be secured, it will be appropriately cordoned odd.
“When the exercise is conducted, no doubt there will be issued alerts around that area just alerting people they might hear explosive devices, or flash bangs as they’re more commonly known."
Assistant Commissioner Fleming did not release details of when the training exercise would be completed.
The training comes as the new Security and Counter-Terrorism Command – dedicated solely to overseeing the Queensland Police Service’s counter-terrorism capability – became fully operational on July 1.
Trevor Watts, the LNP Shadow Police and Corrective Services Minister, said the counter-terrorism effort in Queensland should concentrate on training.
“The SERT (Special Emergency Response Team) locally are finding they are having their training funding pulled and I would ask the minister to make sure they have the correct amount of funding to keep their training up to date.”
