Mr Stewart tweeted a photo of constable Peter McAulay, who is still in hospital after being run over and dragged by the car on Brisbane Road in the Ipswich suburb of Booval.

Constable McAulay, 24, was critically injured in the incident, and two teenagers were charged with his attempted murder.

The young constable was rolling out "stingers" or car immobiliser strips when he was hit by the car, suffering broken bones and being rushed to intensive care where he remained for weeks in a coma.

The photo tweeted by Mr Stewart showed Constable McAulay in hospital sitting upright with his father, Mike and the commissioner.

The officer bears a large scar down one arm but looks cheerful and his father proud.

"Our colleague Const Peter McAulay is making a miraculous recovery- Dad Mike clearly agrees," the commissioner wrote.

"Peter we wish u a swift & complete recovery. Our thx 2 all who have supported Peter in this journey."

Telling Queensland Ambulance and Queensland Health to "take a bow", the commissioner noted there was "still a way to go" for the injured constable.

A 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl were charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. They were captured after the dog squad tracked them down near the crime scene.

The incident triggered a national discussion around the use of stingers and whether police should be given the freedom to use remote car immobilising technology to prevent the risk of police officers being placed in danger during pursuits.
