Tour bus bogged on Fraser Island beach after failed plane rescue attempt

The bus reportedly drove onto the beach in an attempt to tow out a small plane that had become bogged, before meeting the same fate.

While the plane managed to get free, the bus was left on the beach overnight as the tide rolled in and tourists frantically unloaded their luggage and found higher ground.

On Thursday morning Rainbow Recovery, Repairs and Services began the long operation to recover the bus from its resting place on the beach.

With the help of heavy machinery including a truck and small crane, the bus was freed mid-morning from its predicament.
