A vegetation fire and a scrap fire at a recycling plant at Lytton in Brisbane's east are causing heavy smoke across parts of the Port of Brisbane motorway as fire crews work to bring them under control.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews were called to the first fire at a business off Luke Street in Lytton at 3.30pm, where a pile fire had begun.
She said the fire appeared to be in a pile of scrap cardboard, with five crews in attendance.
About 10 minutes later crews were again called to Luke Street and Lytton Road for a second fire, this time in vegetation.
The vegetation fire, which originally had seven crews in attendance, was successfully extinguished at about 5pm.
A QFES spokeswoman said by 5pm crews had managed to isolate part of the pile of scrap cardboard and were using heavy machinery to reach the seat of the fire in the centre of the pile.
Lytton Road was closed in both directions due to the fires just after 4pm from Gosport Street East to the Port of Brisbane.
Diversions are in place but people were asked to avoid the area.
The spokeswoman said there appeared to be no risk of chemical smoke at the first fire, but the motorway was obscured by smoke.
Queensland Ambulance Service were also in attendance in a support capacity, with no one reported to be injured.
Paramedics expected to remain on scene for some time on stand-by.
