Users have taken to social media to vent their frustration and the company's Twitter trouble-shooting account has gone into overdrive responding to the disgruntled users on Tuesday.

"Sorry for the trouble! We're aware of the issue and are working to resolve ASAP. We appreciate your patience," it tweeted in response to a number of angry posts.

Brisbane Uber drivers posted on Facebook their locations would not appear in the app and it was just displaying a world map, others said they were offered fares one minute away but could not accept.

One Brisbane Uber driver posted a screenshot of a message sent to their mobile from Uber.

"We’re currently experiencing issues with the Uber app. We’re working hard to solve them as soon as we can. Call volumes are high. We will update you when we have more information," it said.

The Uber Eats app was also displayed a similar apologetic message.

"We’re experiencing some technical issues, please bear with us," it said.

"We expect this will last no longer than 30 minutes – one hour. Check back again in a little while."

Some users have reported the app working properly once again after several hours and others claim deleting the app and reinstalling it has also solved the problem.

As Uber worked to resolve the issue, Australia, the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, India and New Zealand all reported outages.

The disruption has not only left riders stranded and passengers' seats empty, but also left many hungry customers without their food, despite having paid for their orders.
