Annastacia Palaszczuk has accused former premier Campbell Newman of looking to axe the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast during his premiership, but the ex-LNP leader says he has "no idea" what his successor is talking about.

The allegation was made after LNP leader Deb Frecklington asked about "bungles", including who was responsible for athletes being cut from the closing ceremony and quiet trade on the Gold Coast during the Games.
In response, Ms Palaszczuk said she had heard "rumours" the former LNP government had considered cancelling the Commonwealth Games.
"I have heard rumours which I would like clarified - and perhaps the member for Currumbin may be able to help us here - that the former premier Campbell Newman and the member for Currumbin were looking at axing the Commonwealth Games," the Premier said under parliamentary privilege.
"That is a rumour that has been circulating. I would be more than happy for them to clarify that."
Commonwealth Games Kate Jones repeated the claim, and said it was "one of the first decisions they [the Newman government] made".
"They [the LNP] never wanted the Commonwealth Games to go ahead," she said.
"I am advised that they sought legal advice once they were elected to ditch the Commonwealth Games from Queensland entirely."
Mr Newman told Fairfax Media he had no memory of any such discussions.
"I have got no idea what she is on about," he said.
"I certainly can't recall any such discussion, it's so long ago.
"I guess the relevant point is that we went on and delivered the great infrastructure in a financially responsible manner."
Ms Palaszczuk also took aim at opposition MPs, asking why they had their partners accredited for Commonwealth Games events "when no one on this side took their partners and had them accredited because we were there working".
Ms Stuckey said Labor was just trying to cover up from the "ultimate sin" of cutting athletes from the closing ceremony.
"It's an absolute nonsense, it's a smokescreen," she said.
"If those discussions took place, I certainly wasn't part of them because I was too busy out there locking things in for the Games.
"I certainly wasn't privy to any of that and quite the opposite.
"My brief was proceed, lock things in."
Ms Stuckey, the Commonwealth Games minister from 2012 to 2015 in the Newman government, said she was busy checking the suitability of the location for the athletes village and ensuring the aquatic centre was upgraded.
Ms Frecklington, who was first elected in 2012, said she could not remember any conversation about cancelling the Commonwealth Games under the former Newman government.
"In actual fact, it was the LNP, who when we got into government, we had to fund the Commonwealth Games because the then-premier Bligh decided to announce the Games but hadn't put any funding in place," she told reporters.
In 2008, then-Labor premier Anna Bligh announced the state government would bid for the Gold Coast to host the Commonwealth Games.
The city was selected ahead of the Sri Lankan port city of Hambantota to host the 2018 event.
