Audience members sprang into action to lift the rally car after the driver appeared to lose control during a performance at Mount Gravatt Showgrounds about 6.30pm on Saturday.

According to police, the car lost its steering after going over a jump during the performance, before going through a fence and into the crowd.

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said she was shocked to learn about the incident involving the stunt vehicle at Mount Gravatt.

"I am advised that one of the children struck suffered a muscle and soft tissue injury but I am sure all members agree that it could have been a lot worse," she told Parliament.

"Our thoughts continue to be with the family involved and especially the injured child as well as bystanders who may have been impacted by witnessing the event."

Cleveland father Mark Bluck said his daughters Lilly, 10, and Hannah, 7, and partner Kelly Harris were "lucky" to have escaped with minor injuries.

Ms Grace said Workplace Health and Safety Queensland inspectors had launched an investigation into the incident, while police were also investigating.

"I have asked the director-general of my department to brief me as a priority on any findings to be implemented to ensure the mitigation of any risks of a similar incident happening again in the future," she said.

Ms Grace said her department would work with stakeholders and event organisers to explore ways to make similar events safe in the future.

"It is important that the Queensland public have confidence in their safety and security when they attend public events," she said.

"The Palaszczuk government will not hesitate to act on any recommendations or findings to achieve this outcome."
