More often than not it ends in a little tiff between two of the most competitive players on the Belconnen Magpies list - but the two brothers are always quick to shake hands and move on.
James Bennett will play his 200th club game when the Belconnen Magpies face the Eastlake Demons following the redeveloped Phillip Oval's grand opening on Saturday.
A remarkable 196 of those games will have been in first grade - Bennett played four under 18s games, played first grade the following season and never looked back.
It means he is four games away from becoming the ninth Belconnen player to rack up 200 first grade games, joining a club occupied by his brother Lexie and their father David.
"I reckon we’ve played probably 180 at least together. Most [of my games have been] alongside him, Chris York and Ryan Turnbull," Bennett said.
"I went to Adelaide for a few years and Lexie went to Perth for a year as well. We had a couple of years apart but we’ve spent a lot of time at the footy club together.
"We’re probably two of the most competitive guys at training. As we’ve got a bit older we’ve realised we shouldn’t pair up in drills because it generally doesn’t end well.
"We’ve learnt to protect ourselves a little bit by pairing up with some younger kids."
Lexie Bennett made his comeback from injury last week in a massive boost for the Magpies as they edge closer towards a top two finish.
Meanwhile, the Ainslie Tricolours will face the Tuggeranong Hawks as they ramp up their bid to secure a top two spot at Alan Ray Oval on Saturday.
The Gungahlin Jets will play their final home game of the season when they host the finals-bound Queanbeyan Tigers - but the catch is they are playing at Margaret Donoghoe Oval in Queanbeyan on Sunday.
The Jets' usual home ground of Gungahlin Enclosed Oval was unavailable, so the clash was pencilled in for Phillip Oval, before being transferred to Queanbeyan after the Jets deemed a one-off in Phillip unsustainable from a volunteer perspective.
