Pieces of debris have been picked up by strong winds from the roof of a Brisbane CBD high-rise and sent swirling down onto the footpath below as severe storms rolled through the River City.

The storms were short and sharp, with most rain falling in a 10-minute period, but the return of blue skies did not mean the threat had passed.
Brisbane office worker Clinton Allison watched the debris spiral down towards the footpath below.
"We were watching the storm roll in with the lightning and rain and we just saw the wind start to whip up through there," he said.
"I thought something was going to fly off and sure enough it did. It didn’t look too heavy, but if that landed on top of your car it would do some damage."
The video showed the debris swirling around near the top of the State Law Building, which houses Queensland Corrective Services and the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
Brisbane Times approached staff at the building on Monday, who said the debris landed harmlessly on the footpath outside and they had reported the incident to building management.
On Tuesday, building owner PropertyLink contacted Brisbane Times denying the debris originated from the roof of the State Law Building.
Weatherzone meteorologist Jacob Cronje said storm cells were still being tracked in the Moreton Bay region to Brisbane's north and between Caloundra and Noosa Heads at 3.30pm.
"The storms started off as severe weather warnings over the Darling Downs and Granite Belt, then came across to the south-east coast and lower half of the Wide-Bay Burnett," he said.
"The rainfall rates were quite high. In 10 minutes, Brisbane recorded almost 10 millimetres, Kingaroy got more than 14 and Lismore in northern New South Wales got 11.
"Today was a good day for storms, the rest of week will still see a bit of risk of showers and storms, especially on Wednesday and Thursday."
In terms of total rainfall totals on Monday afternoon, Brisbane recorded almost 19 millimetres, Nambour on the Sunshine Coast received more than 21 and Redcliffe saw more than 18.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Trevor continued to threaten the north Queensland coast, having developed into a cyclone about 5am on Monday in the Coral Sea.
It was 230 kilometres east of Lockhart River at 1pm on Monday.
The Bureau of Meteorology expected the cyclone to continue to intensify to a category three system before crossing the eastern Cape York Peninsula coast on Tuesday evening.
Northern coastal waters were bracing for gale-force winds of 125km/h from Monday onwards, with gusts of up to 175km/h possible near the cyclone's centre.
Abnormally high tides, heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding were expected north of Cairns from Tuesday.
A flood watch was issued on Monday afternoon for catchments north of Cairns to Kowanyama including the Daintree and Bloomfield rivers.
Brisbane was set for a week of rain after parts of south-east Queensland received more than 150 millimetres in the 24 hours up to Monday morning.
The River City was forecast to receive about 30 millimetres of rain this week, with showers and possible daily storms from Monday to Thursday.
The wet weather was expected to ease to a shower or two on Friday and only a light shower or two was predicted for Saturday and Sunday.
