'Whoever did this is still walking free': SES searches for shooting clues

A friend of a woman shot dead in a southern Brisbane home has lamented the lack of any arrests as State Emergency Service crews join the search for "possible items of interest".

Ms Kirley, 40,  was found dead at a semi-rural home on Wembley Road in Karawatha after police received a call at 3.15am on Saturday.

Despite neighbours hearing what they believed were gunshots on Friday night, the triple-zero call was not made until several hours later.

Several items of interest had already been seized and sent for testing on Monday.

Detective Inspector Craig Morrow said they were seeking a number of vehicles, which travelled on the road between the hours of 2.45am and 3.20am on Saturday, as a process of elimination.

Detectives were speaking to the victim's family, friends and anyone who was in the area at the time, but did not have any form suspects.

Resident of the home, Pieter Pickering, 37, had been assisting with inquiries since he was questioned at the weekend.

He was believed to be in a relationship for the past six months with the 40-year-old female victim, who was staying with him at the time.

Mr Pickering described his partner as kind, strong and compassionate person.

"She had a very open heart and would help anyone in need without hesitation and more often than not at her own expense," he said.

"We had spoken and both agreed we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together so much so I had bought a ring and was planning to ask her to marry me on Valentine's Day."

Ms Kirley's friend April Ehlers said she was bothered that there had been no arrests made yet.

"This beautiful ... and intelligent woman who was so strong and so against violence who had to fight her entire life, how (did) she come to such a violent and horrific ending all alone?" she said.

"She didn't have enemies, she was a good, gentle person.

"Whoever did this is still walking free."
