A 40-year-old woman has been shot dead in Brisbane's south during the early hours of Saturday morning.

A police spokesman said they received a call to a semi-rural home at Wembley Road in Karawatha, near Logan Central, at 3.15am about a disturbance and shooting incident.
Police would not confirm the woman's injuries but discovered her body in the home upon arrival.
A 37-year-old male resident of the address was assisting with inquiries.
It is believed he was in a relationship with the woman, who was staying with him in the home at the time.
A crime scene has been established at the Karawatha property and investigations are continuing.
Detective Inspector Craig Morrow said the scene was being forensically examined.
"The issue is it's a large property and it will take some time ... so at this stage I'm unable to determine whether any weapons have been located," he said.
