LNP must attract more women and young people: Frecklington

Ms Frecklington was speaking to the party faithful at the LNP state convention on Sunday as the Queensland branch marked the 10th anniversary since the Liberals and Nationals merged.

"In the last 10 years we have built strong foundations, but we must keep building," she said.

"We must continue to grow our party's membership and connect with more people, more younger people, more females, more diversity across this state."

Ms Frecklington took aim at the Palaszczuk government, accusing it of being out of touch with the regions, particularly in relation to its vegetation management laws.

"These laws are based on flawed science, no consultation and a guillotined debate," she said.

"These laws were passed for one reason, and that's to appease so-called environmentalists, who rarely set foot outside of their inner-city suburbs — they're as far from the bush as they could possibly get, they simply don't understand it."

Her comments were met by a supportive call of "shame" from an LNP member in the crowd.

Earlier this year, a report revealed Queensland had become a national hotspot for land clearing, accounting for 50 to 65 per cent of the total loss of native forests in Australia over the past four decades.

Ms Frecklington said Labor's cabinet was full of party activists and union officials who had "thin resumes and large egos".

"My team is diverse and we're drawn from all walks of life," she said.

Labor's cabinet is made up of nine women and nine men.

Only six of the 39 LNP members elected at the November 25 poll are women, compared with 23 of 48 MPs on the Labor side of the house.

Ms Frecklington said it was only 846 days until the next state election, to be held in October 2020, and guaranteed there would be no new taxes under an LNP government.

"And we cannot afford to waste one single day," she said.
