Wighton's welfare is Stuart's top priority and the Raiders mentor says the fullback has handled the scrutiny surrounding his looming court date well following his return to training.

The 25-year-old is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday on three charges of reckless or intentionally inflicting actual bodily harm, five counts of common assault, and urinating in a public place.

Stuart has named Wighton in his squad to face the Parramatta Eels, while also recalling high-profile duo Josh Papalii and Blake Austin for the clash at Canberra Stadium on Saturday.

But he won't force Wighton to play if he doesn't feel like he can cope with the demands of playing at NRL level after a strenuous week.

"He had his second child last Thursday morning and he probably has been a little bit fortunate that we had the Thursday game so he had a little bit of time off over the weekend," Stuart said.

"He has been back at training since Monday. The NRL squad had [Tuesday] off but he was back in on Monday and training with the squad.

"There is a core process we have to adhere to obviously. Jack’s legal team don’t have all the evidence in front of them at the moment.

"We’ve been in contact with the NRL integrity unit all the way through this process and at no stage have they advised us to stand Jack down."

Flying winger Nick Cotric looms as the favourite to replace Wighton should he withdraw from the Eels clash after he deputised against Canterbury last week, while back-up custodian Brad Abbey has joined the extended bench alongside Michael Oldfield.

The return of experienced heads Austin and Papalii looms as a massive boost for a Canberra outfit looking to reignite their finals hopes in the midst of a torrid time.

Raiders sponsors are keeping a close eye on the Wighton saga as the Green Machine fullback prepares to face court but major partner Huawei have backed the club's handling of the situation.

The Raiders have traditionally taken a firm stance against poor off-field behaviour having sacked a host of high-profile players over the past decade.

The Raiders' major partner deal with Huawei is the biggest sponsorship deal in the club's history and won't expire until the end of 2019, having first struck a partnership in March 2012.

Huawei's director of corporate and public affairs Jeremy Mitchell says the China-based company will keep a close eye on developments surrounding Wighton but is confident the Raiders will handle the matter adequately.

"We’re confident that the board and management will look after it as they normally do, so we fully support them and whatever actions they take," Mitchell said.

"[We have] 100 per cent confidence and support of the Raiders and how they handle these situations."

The maximum penalty for assault occasioning actual bodily harm is a five-year jail sentence. Reports indicate at least three people were assaulted outside the Academy nightclub.

It is understood Wighton had been urinating in a Civic alleyway before a confrontation with the alleged victims.

Wighton will oppose returning Eels fullback Clint Gutherson, who looms as a vital cog in Parramatta's hopes of resurrecting their winless season.

Gutherson was sensational for Parramatta last year before his campaign was derailed by a knee injury six weeks out from the finals.

Now the 23-year-old will have an even tougher task to deal with as the Eels look to fight their way off the bottom of the table.
