Reynolds looks set to miss up to four weeks with a right hamstring injury suffered in Saturday's six-point win over Canberra, where his teammates rallied without him and concussed skipper James Graham in the second half to pull off a gutsy comeback win.

It capped an emotional week for the Belmore club, during which Reynolds informed teammates of his decision to sign a four-year deal with the Tigers to help make way for incoming prop Aaron Woods.

Close friend Adam Elliott, who scored two tries in the win over Canberra, said Canterbury was determined to give Reynolds a memorable final season in the blue and white.

"It [that motivation is] something that can definitely keep going for the whole season, particularly someone like him," Elliott said.

"When someone like Josh announces something like that to the team and you know how much that means to him, you're motivated by it and you do want to go out and play for him and add a bit of spark like he does each week."

Elliott was one of the first people Reynolds called after making his decision to join the Tigers.

"We're pretty close mates. He said he wanted to make sure that I knew before he announced it to the group so I didn't bust out into tears," Elliott said.

"It was emotional. He told me, we stayed on the phone for about 40 minutes having a chat about it.

"I said to him straight away, not many people would have the influence that he will have when he does announce it to the team.

"He's been a big part of me so far making it this far in my career, and as a person off the field I've spent a lot of time with him. It'd be hard to imagine the last three years without being mates with 'Grubby' [Reynolds] off the field.

"I know that's going to continue no matter where he goes, that's probably the most important thing to me."

Reynolds played a role in Elliott's first try against Canberra and also produced a try-saving tackle on behemoth back-rower Josh Papalii before being forced off late in the first half, clutching the back of his right leg.

That came after Graham left the field in the 14th minute with concussion and then failed a head injury assessment.

The Bulldogs were down six points at half-time but a rousing speech by Aiden Tolman, who like Elliott played the full 80 minutes, helped turn around Canterbury's fortunes ahead of the international break.

"When someone like Aiden Tolman speaks up at half-time you listen to him, you don't want to let him down, you want him to look you in the eye and be proud of you," Elliott said.

"He just said that this is the sort of team that we want to be, when adversity hits us we want to be mentally tough, we want to make sure that we can come through the other side of it, when we go to a dark place we can keep going together.

"He basically just said make sure you can look at the bloke next to you and be proud at the end of the game.

"That typifies 'Tolsy', what he does every week but it was about us doing it as a 17 in the second half.

"I try to listen pretty closely to people, especially Tolsy. Whenever he says something, my ears prick up and I take notice of it.

"He actually spoke to me before we ran out, before the kick-off and just said, 'Look, you're starting tonight, you deserve that'. When someone like that says it to you, it registers."
