There will only be one southbound lane on Wentworth Avenue from Gosse Street to Dawes Street, the intersection of Wentworth Avenue and either Eyre Street or Giles Street will close alternatively, and there will be no left turn in or out of Eyre Street and Giles Street for southbound traffic on Wentworth Avenue.
The upgrade includes a new surface, kerbs and guttering to 400 metres of the Wentworth Avenue southbound lane between Gosse Street and Dawes Street.
Capital Works Design and Delivery director Ben McHugh said the works would make the road safer and improve the amenity of the area.
The ACT government is also preparing for the final stage of the upgrade, which will include the Fyshwick bound carriageway of Wentworth Avenue and take place late 2016.
Warning signs and barriers will alert motorists to the road closures.
