A man used a shotgun to steal a car from a woman in a Civic carpark before robbing a post office in Fyshwick on Tuesday afternoon, police say.

The man, armed with a shotgun and wearing a balaclava, approached the woman in the Canberra Theatre carpark, on London Circuit about 2.50pm before demanding her Audi station wagon, according to police.
The woman complied and the man fled in the stolen car.
About 4.30pm the man, again armed with the shotgun, demanded cash from staff at the Australia Post store in Townsville Street, Fyshwick, police allege.
The staff complied and the offender fled the scene.
The alleged offender is described as Caucasian in appearance, with blue eyes and about 180cm (5'11") tall.
He was wearing black tracksuit pants with white stripes, a navy football jumper and black balaclava.
The car is a white Audi Q5 station wagon bearing ACT registration: YJO-43U.
Police are undergoing extensive searches for the offender and car and are seeking public assistance and witnesses to the two aggravated robberies, but say the car or its occupants should not be approached.

In a separate incident earlier in the day a man allegedly threatened staff in a Queanbeyan bank with a shortened firearm before running off empty handed, NSW police say.
Police said they were called to the Westpac bank on Monaro Street about 1.40pm on Tuesday after reports of a robbery.
"Initial investigations suggest a man wearing dark clothing and with his face covered, entered the bank and allegedly threatened staff with a shortened firearm, before fleeing empty handed," they said in a statement.
"He was last seen driving away in a silver sedan."
Police said they searched the area but have not yet found the man. No one was injured in the incident.
Police ask anyone with information about the attempted to come forward.
