The incident appears to have been filmed on Kingsford Smith Drive in the Belconnen region. A Canberra resident uploaded the video to social media on Friday.

The aggressive driver is filmed stopping at a red light and getting out of his car before confronting the driver of the car parked immediately in front of him.

The man punches the driver's window before kicking the side of the car with his knee.

He then punches the driver's door before trying to open it however, the door appears locked.

The man then gives the driver the one-finger salute before walking back to his own car and getting back behind the wheel before the traffic light turns green.

The video has been viewed 15,000 times and shared 70 times since it was uploaded on Facebook.

An ACT Policing spokeswoman said police had received a report of the road rage incident and an investigation was ongoing.

Traffic Operations station sergeant Susan Ball said the road was not an appropriate place to unleash emotions.

"Don't drive angry – if you are angry or upset, don't get into a car and drive," she said.

"If you are angry or upset you are more likely to speed, lose control of the vehicle, drive too close to the vehicle in front of you and take your emotions out on other drivers.

Sergeant Ball said road rage was not an offence itself. However, it might be associated with offences such as assault, property damage or collisions.

She said anyone confronted by an aggressive driver should stay inside their car and lock the doors, get away safely if possible, get the driver's registration details and a description of the car, get a good description of the person or people involved, and contact police immediately.
