One of Australia's greatest goalkeepers also says the Socceroos shouldn't completely close the door on a Tom Rogic comeback for the Asian Cup next month and backed Canberra duo Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Carl Valeri to shine at the tournament.

Bosnich was in Canberra on Tuesday as part of his role as an Asian Cup ambassador and the trip opened his eyes to the "depth of anger" felt towards the Football Federation Australia after the capital was overlooked for A-League expansion four years ago.

Ex-Socceroo Andy Bernal wants to reignite an A-League bid to be ready if the FFA expands from 2017.

"I know in the past [Canberra] has felt a bit left out ... short-changed with what went on," Bosnich said.

"We had a World Cup bid in motion and there were a lot of things going on behind the scenes, perhaps Canberra suffered.

"I can understand it and even though I had nothing to do with it, if it means anything, I'm sorry on behalf of football. A lot of people in Canberra are upset.

"I didn't realise the depth of anger there was ... I think there should be a team in the capital, that's my opinion. Whether they're ready or not and if it's feasible, that's up to the people of Canberra."

Bosnich spoke to government officials in Canberra and the Asian Cup trophy will be at the Canberra Centre on Wednesday with Bosnich's former teammate Ned Zelic and retired Matilda Sally Shipard.

Canberra Stadium will host six Asian Cup pool matches in January and a quarter final and Bosnich urged fans to be a part of "the biggest football tournament Australia's has hosted".

Veterans Valeri and Topor-Stanley have been included in coach Ange Postecoglou's initial 46-man squad.

But Rogic is only just starting a long road back to the field after groin surgery to repair the injury that ruined his World Cup dream this year.

Rogic started training with Celtic last week and despite his lack of game time of the past 12 months, Bosnich insists the door should not be slammed just yet on a surprise Asian Cup appearance.

"[Rogic] is a fabulous talent and he'll get it right. It takes two or three years to adapt overseas and this is a very good apprenticeship for him," Bosnich said.

"I would keep all doors open [for the Asian Cup] and that's why I can understand [Postecoglou] picking 46 players. I would keep all options open and Ange will have to weigh up the squad and whether it would upset it if [Rogic] was brought in."

Valeri is poised to reignite his Socceroos career after almost two years on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Joining the Melbourne Victory for a stint in the A-League has helped the midfielder recapture his best form while Topor-Stanley continues to excel as the leader of the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Bosnich described Topor-Stanley as the Wanderers' "rock" in their A-League rise and Asian Champions League triumph.

"Topor-Stanley's been a focal point for them and if he hadn't got injured in the A-League final [last season] the Wanderers would have won," Bosnich said.

"Carl Valeri has been outstanding, he's got a case to be in the starting Socceroos line-up and I'd back it 100 per cent. He's got a superb engine and does a lot of work that goes unrewarded. I couldn't give him a higher mark out of 10.

"The bottom line is both are great players and the country expects the Socceroos to get to at least the semi-finals in the Asian Cup. It doesn't matter if you like someone or not, it's about their abilities.

"I never like to oversell things, there are six games in Canberra and a quarter final."
