Thando Sikwila had both Kylie Minogue and Joel Madden press their big red button and turn around during her blind audition on Tuesday night.
"I felt overjoyed. Kylie turning around was awesome," she said.
While she feels very privileged to make it through to the next round and work with the Queen of Pop herself, there was one judge in particular whose face she was hoping to see.
"I was hoping will.i.am would turn because I really wanted to get on his team," she said.
"But Kylie's a legend. I weighed up what would be better for me and I thought about me professionally and went with her."
Originally from Zimbabwe, Sikwila moved to Canberra with her parents and three sisters in 2001.
She went to high school and college in Canberra, before moving to Melbourne in 2011 to study for a Bachelor of Music.
The 20-year-old has been singing with a band around Melbourne, as well as performing solo, and decided to audition for The Voice to get her name out to a broader audience.
"There's only so long an artist can sing in pubs – it's a good opportunity to get my name out to a different demographic," she said.
"It's been really surreal. I've got an opportunity to learn more about myself as a performer and I've had the support of the coaches – I've been able to learn something from all of them."
Now Sikwila will have to battle against other members of her own team to progress to the next stage.
"I'm working on combating my nerves. Hopefully, I can put on a good show in the battle rounds and get the opportunity to sing again," she said.
