The Canberra rider was never troubled in winning her first national championship since 2011 in the elite women's division at Shepparton on Saturday.

It was sweet revenge for Buchanan after the 23-year-old crashed out at last year's national titles when it was run in a different format.

Buchanan has made a perfect start to the year, winning the opening round of the World Cup series, the Oceania championship on Thursday night and the national title.

But her ultimate aim remains to claim gold at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games after a disappointing result in London two years ago.

"I really didn't know how far in front I was,'' Buchanan said. "BMX is never over until the finish line and I am always trying to challenge myself for that world stage.

"I'm really hungry for Rio.''

Buchanan led from start to finish in the final, crossing the line with a massive 10-metre margin to her nearest rival, Leanna Curtis from NSW, with Western Australia's Kirsten Dellar in third.

Buchanan has won 16 national titles across junior and senior divisions after claiming her first when she was just 10 years old.

However, it was her first Australian title since 2011 and allows her to wear the Australian flag on her racing uniform for the rest of the year.

She won her first world championship in BMX in Auckland last year to show she was hungrier than ever to make up for failing to make the final at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Buchanan is in peak shape after a four-month training block at the AIS under strength and conditioning coach Julian Jones and won the opening round of the BMX Supercross World Cup in Manchester last month.

She will leave Australia immediately after the national titles aiming to make it back-to-back victories in the series when it moves to Holland next weekend.
