Police Minister Simon Corbell has revealed that not a single driver had been booked for speeding on the road since the speed limits were changed a month ago.
Mr Corbell said Opposition Transport spokesman Alistair Coe had been left “red faced” after claiming the government was “cashing in” by booking motorist while confusion reigned about limits on the road.
Mr Coe’s statement also said that a camera had been booking drivers yesterday, on May 23 but according to Mr Corbell, a speed camera van had been deployed there the day before, May 22, for about one hour and 25 minutes.
“It is astonishing to see the Liberals have alleged that the government is attempting to entrap drivers, when a speed camera van has only visited the site once on May 22 and during the 1 hour and 25 minutes it was on patrol on this stretch of road, not a single infringement for speeding was issued.
“The Liberals need to check their facts before they make outrageous and fear mongering claims that are not backed up with any facts.”
