The ACT Fire Brigade was called to the scene at about 5pm after receiving a number of triple-0 calls.
A man and his three children were in the home when it caught fire. They got out safely before flames engulfed the property, but the man was taken to Canberra Hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Multiple firefighting units helped battle the blaze and didnt fully extinguish the fire until after nightfall.
Fire investigators are yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
Residents in the street who watched on as firefighters worked to control the fire said the family had lost everything.
A cousin of the owner said the family was shattered, although happy to be safe.
