The killers of a man found shot dead on a Melbourne freeway are still on the run, as the victim's identity has come to light.

The dead man, reported as Paul Virgona, was found in a bullet-riddled van on the Eastlink Freeway at Donvale about 2.20am on Saturday.
The 46-year-old is understood to run a wholesale fruit and vegetable business in Melbourne's inner north.
Mr Virgona was appointed as coach for the Croydon Football and Netball club's under-19s Colts for the upcoming season.
The fatal shooting was a "targeted attack" and the public should not be concerned for their safety, Detective Acting Inspector Peter Trichias told reporters on Saturday.
"The shooting itself does not appear to be random, it appears to be a targeted attack," he said.
Det Insp Trichias said there was "no indication" the shooting was in retaliation for any other incident.
Two vehicles found dumped at Mooroolbark and Bayswater are believed to be linked to the killing and police combed the areas around the vehicles.
It's believed the attackers dumped the ute in Bayswater before fleeing through a nearby park.
The firearm used has not been recovered and there have not been any details released about potential suspects.
Witnesses have been urged to come forward if they saw anything suspicious.
