1. Yes! It's back again
Canberra's annual equality street festival Yes!Fest returns for another year bringing 29 LGBTIQ+ with it to transform Lonsdale Street into a rainbow. This year's line-up is packed with drag queens and performers, with headliners including Felicia Foxx, Ellen Reed, The Huxleys, The House of Luna and Sarah Moany. There will also be the first-ever Rainbow Runway competition which invites people to vogue, strut and dance their way down the runway to compete for the Rainbow Roundabout crown. Saturday, 3pm-3am. Lonsdale Street. Free event.
2. Head southside
The streets and laneways of Tuggeranong Town Centre will host a day of celebration, markets, food and entertainment for SouthFest this Saturday. Featuring 200 stallholders, performers and activities, it promises something for everyone. There's a fun park with free activities for kids of all ages including jumping castles and an obstacle course. There's also Eat Street for the foodies, the SouthFest Marketplace for a spot of shopping and the Pop Culture and Table Top Gaming Expo. Saturday, 10am-3pm. Cowlishaw Street, Tuggeranong. Free event.
3. Oui, oui!
The French Market returns to Canberra this weekend, just in time to start Christmas shopping. With food, drinks, deli and handmade products all on offer, it brings a little bit of France to the capital, while shining a light on what French products and services are available in Canberra. Saturday, 10am-4pm. Alliance Franaise de Canberra. Free event.
4. No scrubs
If there was one thing that we learnt from girl group TLC in the 90s was that a scrub is a guy who thinks he's fly, and we most certainly don't want any of them. Take this piece of advice with you when you head to No Scrubs: 90s and Early 00s Party at UC Hub this Friday night. It promises to play only absolute anthems from the 1990s and early 2000s, so we're talking Backstreet Boys, Destiny's Child, and more. This is a night to hit the dancefloor and try not to remember that it's been more than a decade since these songs were released. Saturday, 9pm-3am. Tickets are $20 from Moshtix.
5. Get creative
Escape from the everyday hustle and bustle, and get in touch with your creative side. Sip on wine and enjoy a charcuterie platter while taking part in a guided watercolour workshop hosted by Caroline Deeble. The Canberra artist has work exhibited annually in Italy and was the featured artist in the international documentary Colour in Your Life. If anyone is going to help you create a masterpiece, it's her. Saturday, 2pm. Tickets are $119 from hacademy.pialligo.com.
