Here are five things to check out at this year's event.

One of the best things about DESIGN Canberra is how it injects art and design into different parts of the city. This year sees a piece from Hannah Quinlivan installed at the City Walk entry to Monaro Mall. Desiderium is an ephemeral spatial drawing, that forces you to look up and notice - potentially for the first time - the ceiling mosaic that was installed when the building was first built. As well as viewing the artwork throughout the festival, on November 14 there will be an artist talk and an intimate performance from acclaimed classical vocalists. A new offering for the 2020 DESIGN Canberra program, Two Minutes to Midnight is a series of events that invites designers to engage in conversations about spaces and places. The three-part series kicks off from Monday at Midnight Bar with the Meet the Makers edition. It will discuss the benefits that arts and culture bring to a city. The Design Revisited series is an opportunity to take a look at the capital's design history, design education and design excellence. The four-part series kicks off with an online talk by artist Daniel Boyd and architects Aaron Roberts and Kim Bridgland who will celebrate For Our Country, the sculptural pavilion commemorating the military service and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. For Our Country won the 2020 Canberra Medallion - the highest accolade at the Australian Institute of Architecture ACT Chapter Awards. The November 17 event will see curator, writer and art historian, Deborah Clark guide you through some of Canberra's most prominent public art. If COVID-19 has given us anything it's a new appreciation for the spaces that we live in. Playing into that newfound appreciation is the exhibition from local photographer Davey Barber, who set out to explore and photograph Canberra's suburbs. This is Suburbia - which is at Canberra Contemporary Art Space and Belconnen Arts Centre until November 29 - aims to capture the unique characteristics make the suburbs instantly recognisable.
