The incident occurred on Saturday inside one of the accommodation units of the Alexander Maconochie Centre.
It follows an incident in October this year in which an Indigenous prisoner, Brett Fanti, was attacked by another inmate and hit three times in the head, stomped on and had boiling water poured on him, causing third-degree burns.
ACT Corrective Services did not issue a notification of either of these recent violent incidents.
In the case of the attack on Mr Fanti, the incident went undisclosed by Corrections until the matter reached court.
Justice Heath Services rendered immediate first aid to the stabbed prisoner. The inmate was then taken to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.
He was later returned to the jail that afternoon.
