ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Service were called to the Banfield Street home about 9.15pm.
Intensive care paramedics treated a person at the scene.
"The fire was contained to one house. The cause of the fire was accidental," the Emergency Services said in a statement.
"Canberrans are urged to ensure that they have working smoke alarms in their residences. Working smoke alarms save lives."
The road was closed until almost midnight, and the community was advised to avoid the area.
