The investigation centres on three incidents carried out in Belconnen in the past month, where a group of men have threatened drivers, sometimes at knifepoint, before stealing the victim's car.
The first incident on March 24, saw a man approached by two men in Florance Place in Macquarie, and threatened with a knife.
The pair then stole the man's car, which was later recovered in an Aranda car park.
A second incident, just two days later on March 26, involved a pizza delivery driver being assaulted by a group of men in Bandjalong Crescent in Aranda.
The delivery car was then stolen, and later found in an underpass in Chifley.
The third theft happened on April 12, just before 11pm, where a man was approached by another man carrying a knife on Banambila Street in Aranda, before his victim's car was stolen.
The car was discovered a short time later by police in a Macquarie car park.
An ACT police spokesman said it was likely the incidents were carried out by the same group of people.
The offenders are described as male, between 20 and 30-years-old, about 180 centimetres tall and Caucasian.
They were seen wearing dark masks and dark clothing during the incidents.
