Saturday's match at McKellar Park proved goalless in the first 45 minutes before the deadlock was broken in the early minutes of the second half.

The lone goal, and the decider, came from Aisosa Ihegie in the 49th minute, marking his sixth goal of the season.

He trapped the ball off a rebound from Belconnen keeper Jordan Thurtell and slotted it through in the bottom right hand corner to make 1-0.

It proved a game of two halves, with Belconnen dominating the first half, and Olympic the second.

Belconnen coach Fabian Miceli agreed his side put on their best first half performance of the season.

"First half was our best half of the season. It was pretty much close to perfect," he said.

"It was what we worked on in training, our forward movements, our midfield. We just couldn't score."

Belconnen had a plethora of opportunities during the first half. With Michael Aikon Mensah and Michael Piccolo peppering the visitors' net.

Piccolo, who was playing his 50th game for Belconnen, came closest in the first half to break the deadlock, ringing one off the post 32 minutes into the match.

A critical defensive factor in the first half was Oliver Wiederkehr for Olympic, with a stalwart performance.

Olympic coach Robbie Cattanach thought his squad picked it up after a lackluster opening period.

"I was generally pretty pleased. Although we weren't playing well, Belconnen wasn't able to break us down," said Cattanach.

"Which is a pleasing thing considering the goals we've leaked this year, so to have a clean sheet is good for us."

Olympic's only other clean sheet of the season was when they beat Belconnen 3-0 in the second round.

The win takes Olympic to 11 points - trailing Belconnen by one point on the ladder - after three wins, three losses and three draws to their name.
