RE/Vision Commission
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is looking for a female First Nations audiovisual creative to produce a work using digital items from the national collection. Expressions of interest are open for the commissioned project, tentatively titled RE/Vision, which will feature as part of the UK/Australia Season - the largest cultural exchange between Australia and the United Kingdom. The filmmaker will work closely with NFSA curatorial and technical experts, utilising the digital collection to produce an audiovisual product, that will aim to offer an authentic and contemporary vision of Australia. The work will be based around the British/Australia theme of Who Are We Now? The work will premiere internationally in partnership with the British film institute (BFI) in Britain in late 2022, and domestically in Canberra at the NFSA's Arc Cinema. The complete piece will then be brought into the NFSA collection, and made available to the public. Applications for the $25,000 commission are invited until midnight on October 17, 2021. National Folk Festival

She wants to focus on the theme Home/Belonging/Family, since the last year has made people focus on their birth and chosen families more than ever in lockdown. Applicants can use this curatorial framework to shape applications. The organisers have been working with the local Ngunnawal community to create a version of one the Warumpi band's My Island home - in language and invite artists to sing this song in their sets and encourage choral audience participation. The festival - which is scheduled to take place over the Easter weekend next year - is seeking practitioners in fields such as music, dance, spoken word and theatre/comedy, from traditional to contemporary and everything in between.
