Victoria Police have confirmed 73 officers and 16 PSOs as of Wednesday afternoon had failed to comply with the state's authorised worker vaccine mandate and a specific chief commissioner instruction.

They have been told to take accrued leave while stood down but may lose their jobs altogether.

"Police officers and PSOs who have chosen not to be vaccinated have been referred to Professional Standards Command for failing to abide by an instruction of the chief commissioner and subsequent disciplinary action, which may result in the members being terminated," a Victoria Police spokesman said in a statement.

Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said disciplining action for members had been scheduled for the end of November.

Asked if his message to those stood down was "get vaccinated or get out", he told 3AW: "Pretty much, yeah."

Exemptions from the vaccine mandate, which already requires all authorised workers to have had their first dose and to have both by November 26 to do their job on site, only apply to those who cannot get the jab due to a medical issue.

Victoria's Police Association has previously backed mandatory vaccinations for members and has been contacted for fresh comment.
