Sri Lanka in 187-run win over West Indies

West Indies needed 348 to win but were bowled out for 160 on the final day shortly after lunch on Thursday.

Embuldeniya, who took 5-46 , had six wickets in the match in total while Mendis, with 4-64, had a seven-wicket match total.

Nkrumar Bonner top-scored for the West Indies with an unbeaten 68 off 220 balls, including seven boundaries. It was his third Test half-century.

Bonner and Joshua da Silva frustrated Sri Lankan bowlers, who desperately searched for a breakthrough as rain threatened to spoil the march.

Da Silva and Bonner started the day on 6-52 with the pair trying to rebuild the innings after their team plummeted to 6-18.

The pair added 62 more runs in the morning session before da Silva was caught by Dhananjaya de Silva at slip for 54 runs.

Embuldeniya broke the 100-run, seventh-wicket partnership as the West Indies went to lunch on 7-125.

Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne, who scored 147 and 83, was named player of the match.

"Even though it took time, we knew it was just a matter of one wicket," Karunaratne said.

"Joshua and Bonner were batting very well. We believed we will be able to win the match if we were able to get one of them out."

Karunaratne said he was worried about his own batting form because of lack of training and match practice. Sri Lanka last played a Test six months ago.

"When I came into this Test, I didn't have runs behind my name and was doubting myself.

"I took a nervous start and fell into a rhythm which I continued to the second innings. But I still feel I haven't reached my fine form," Karunaratne said.

Sri Lanka opted to bat after winning the toss and made 386 in their first innings, and the West Indies responded with 230.

Sri Lanka declared their second innings on 4-191, giving the tourists 348 runs to win.
