The new cases bring the active total to 5681.

There are 25 people in hospital because of COVID, four in intensive care, and three are being ventilated.

There were 4279 negative tests received in the 24 hours to 9am Monday.

Meantime, the percentage of the eligible population who have received a booster shot has reached 22.5 per cent.

This comes as children aged between five and 11 become eligible for COVID-19 vaccination from Monday.

NSW has recorded 20,293 COVID-19 cases and 18 deaths, the highest number of mortalities since the pandemic began.

The new cases were diagnosed from 84,333 tests undertaken in the 24-hours to 8pm on Sunday.

There are 2030 patients in hospital, 159 in the ICU.

Tasmania has recorded 1218 new COVID-19 cases, with the number of people being treated in hospital for virus symptoms rising to 11.

The fresh cases, made up of 821 reported positive rapid antigen tests and 397 PCR tests, take the island state's number of active infections to 7917.

Eleven people are being treated in hospital specifically for COVID-19 symptoms, an increase on the four patients reported on Sunday. None are in intensive care.

Six positive cases are in hospital for unrelated medical conditions.
