The 75-year-old was extradited from South Australia on Thursday following investigations into alleged historical sexual assault incidents in Cairns.
The man was taken into custody during a police search of the man's Ceduna address, where he was later arrested.
The accused is charged with 25 counts of rape, 11 counts of indecent assault and deprivation of liberty.
Police will allege the incidents, reported in October 2021, took place in Cairns between 1978 and 1979.
The man has been remanded in custody to reappear at Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday.
