By 11am on Wednesday, the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano had emitted several ash clouds, the largest reaching a height of up to 13km above sea level, according to Russian volcano researchers.
Authorities said they had closed schools, kindergartens and other educational institutions on Wednesday due to ash rain in the region.
The Civil Defence called on the population to avoid the volcano region and refrain from driving to and from the nearby town of Klyuchi.
The heightened activity at Klyuchevskaya Sopka began as early as June, according to Russian media reports.
For several weeks, the volcano has been spewing ash clouds on an almost daily basis.
