Liberal Member for Brindabella, Nicole Lawder, cut the ribbon on the Canberra Ingrown Toenail Clinic, which is part of Brindabella Podiatry's premises on Anketell Street.

Brindabella Podiatry owner Nicole Hart said the clinic regularly saw as many as 15 patients a day with ingrown toenails, one patient only seven months old.

The new, stand-alone surgery suite will allow the podiatrists to treat patients with the ailment in a separate surgical suite, the treatment options self-management, non-surgical intervention or surgery with local anaesthetic.

Nicole Hart said patients had often had a bad experience elsewhere of treatment of their ingrown toenail and were too scared by the prospect of pain to try something new. The clinic was offering a free assessment to patients, not least to ease any worry.

She said the overwhelming majority of ingrown toenails could be treated successfully and new advances in treatment meant no discomfort during or after the procedure.

An open day was held at Brindabella Podiatry on Wednesday, June 13 to celebrate the opening of the new clinic.

The clinic offered free coffee from its neighbour, Foundry Coffee, and homemade slices to loyal patients and potential new clients.

Ms Lawder was thrilled to support a local business.
