We're expecting a top of 11 today, partly cloudy and with a westerly to northwesterly wind for most of the day. It's meant to be the coldest day of the week, with tops of 14 to 16 forecast for the first few days of August.

Let's have a look at what's making news this morning:

Rents are sky-high in Canberra, equal-highest in the country even. The ACT Greens are about to put a new plan to their Labor government partners in a bid to help low-income tenants.

Under the plan, property owners who cut their rent by 25 per cent compared to potential market rent wouldn't pay any land tax.

The plan has the support of the community housing sector and will be put to the ACT Legislative Assembly this week.

Gymnastics has had a place at the Australian Institute of Sport for 37 years, but that might be set to end, with officials in the sport looking for a new home.

Only two athletes are using the 35-year-old facility, and the decaying and out of date building as been cited as one of the reasons for the potential move.

An extra 15 executive staff positions were created at ACT Health last financial year - the only directorate to have such a significant increase.

Analysis showed taxpayers were slugged at least $8,196,834.2 for the top paid members of ACT Health last year, up 40 per cent from 2016/17 when the bill totalled $5,821,595.

The news comes as doctors and nurses are still locked in EBA negotiations with the government, and before ACT Health is set to be split into two bodies on October 1.

This is one to warm your heart. Kalinda McClellan-Weaver has gone from being unexpectedly pregnant at 20 years old and escaping domestic violence to working as an apprentice and with somewhere to live.

A partnership between Karinya House, which offers support to mothers and babies in Canberra, and Kovu hair salon, led to Ms McClellan-Weaver being offered a job.

This story makes me realise what a hoarder I am! Giralang resident Jessica Conway is part of the tiny house movement.

At just $50,000 and less than 93 square metres, this tiny house may not be for everyone, but it solved the issue of both cost and independence for Ms Conway.

Ms Conway said keeping the wardrobe tiny is a big challenge (that's where I would struggle!)

"It being Canberra, you really get all four seasons. Winter is challenging. It's a lot of cycling through of what you have and thinking differently about what you wear."
