The utility lost $2 million when Better Place's Australian operations were wound down in February. In 2011, Better Place launched a scheme for 16 recharge points in Canberra but only 13 were built.
ActewAGL general manager for business development and strategy Dianne O'Hara said the investment in Better Place had yielded some positive results.
''We gained important technical understanding of how best to meter and bill electric vehicle customers in the ACT,'' she said. ''Better Place Australia has also made headway in raising awareness of electric vehicles in the Australian market.
''ActewAGL will continue to evaluate other opportunities … and remains committed to supporting the development of electric vehicle infrastructure in the ACT.''
