Detectives are still searching for a car and three suspects after a man was shot during an alleged failed home invasion on the Gold Coast in January.

Police said the attack was a case of "mistaken identity", but the victim suffered "significant trauma" when he was shot in the hand and is still receiving therapy.
On January 8, it will be alleged, a green 2003 Daewoo with registration plate KIM 891 pulled over on Plateau Crescent in Carrara at about 4pm. A man and woman got out, leaving two others inside the vehicle.
Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said the man pulled a gun out of a rifle bag as the pair walked towards a home where a man, woman and child were inside.
It will be alleged the pair confronted the male resident when he opened his front door. The resident then tried to close the door and that was when the male attacker fired a round through the door.
The 44-year-old male resident was hit in the hand. He was treated at the scene before being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital by ambulance in a serious condition.
The four attackers fled and subsequent police investigations suggest the attack was a case of mistaken identity and the residents had only recently moved in, according to Inspector Thompson.
"This offence was particularly horrendous in that it strikes at the heart of what we all hold dear and that is to feel safe and secure in your own home," Inspector Thompson said on Thursday.
"The victim is still receiving therapy to get the hand working .... it was significant trauma; there was quite a significant amount of blood loss and he was in a very bad way for a long time.
"(He has had) a number of surgeries to repair the hand and at this stage, I think he’s still got minimal use of that hand."
Detectives arrested and charged a 26-year-old woman last Thursday on the Sunshine Coast with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to the incident.
She was due to face Maroochydore Magistrate Court on September 20. Police will allege she was the car driver and confronted the resident along with the man who fired the gun.
On Thursday, police provided more details about the incident and launched a public appeal to find the car involved and three other occupants of the car, including the male shooter aged in his 30s.
Inspector Thompson said the woman who has been charged had refused to cooperate with police and detectives were hoping the appeal would generate fresh leads.
Police haven't found the gun involved either, but said the car in question was seen in the Gold Coast area a week after the shooting.
