Rugby World Cup 2015: Wallabies playmaker Quade Cooper adamant he's ready for England clash

Cooper also revealed one of his Brisbane fans, a child with a terminal brain tumour, added inspiration to his World Cup campaign before Australia thumped Uruguay 65-3.

The enigmatic playmaker produced the sort of mixed bag that only he can as he stepped into the No. 10 jersey against Uruguay, setting up tries, stepping through defences, being sin-binned for a high tackle and converting just five of 11 attempts at goal.

He was so disappointed with his goalkicking that he went back on to Villa Park after full-time to try to work out the kinks in his action ahead of a showdown with England.

The Wallabies face the biggest test of their World Cup when they face off against the tournament hosts on Saturday (Sunday AEST).

England is staring at group-stage elimination after a shock loss to Wales, and need to beat the Wallabies to stay alive in their home tournament.

Cooper is challenging Bernard Foley for the five-eighth job and coach Michael Cheika faces a choice between mercurial Cooper and reliable Foley.

Asked if he thought he had done enough against Uruguay to stake his claim, Cooper said: "To be honest, I did.

"I was happy to be out there and do my part where I'm continuing to try to push my claims at training each day. I'm trying to do everything that is asked of me and do it well.

"If I get an opportunity I know I'll be ready and will have the backing of the guys … this is bigger than any individual, bigger than the team. It's about winning each game and trying to win the Cup. This is for the country."

Cooper said his first game of the World Cup was made even more special after his mum sent him a message before kick-off.

"[The message] was of a kid in Brisbane who I sent a jersey to one time and he's suffering from a brain tumour … he might not live to the end of the World Cup," Cooper said.

"But he wanted to pass on his best wishes to me and the team. It sort of made me realise that out on the field we make an impact to people's lives and it's more than just a game.

"It's how we want to represent ourselves on the field, off the field and we want to be the best people we can."

Cooper's unpredictability will worry England's defence, with his fleet-footed movement tearing Uruguay apart. It's a skill that sets him apart from Foley.

However, he has also been sent to the sin bin in three of his last four Tests and another brain snap could be costly against a fired-up English side.

He grabbed Uruguay halfback Agustin Ormaechea around the neck in the 12th minute and slammed him to the ground.

"Yeah, look it was disappointing to be sin-binned as it was such an awesome atmosphere out there," Cooper said.

"But it was good to get back out there and get into the game, and be there until the end and be able to get a few touches to contribute to a couple of tries.

"I am not sure on what's going to happen now, it's hard for me to comment on that. I will just wait and see how it unfolds and continue to prepare and get better each day."

His missed kicks weren't a factor against Uruguay as the scoreboard blew out to an 11-tries to nil romp.

But in England's loss to Wales, kicking accounted for 81 per cent of total points scored.

Both England and Wales scored one try each, with kickers Owen Farrell and Dan Biggar booting 43 of the 53 points scored via 12 penalties, a drop goal and two conversions.

The Wallabies have employed kicking coach Chris Malone to ensure accuracy is not an Achilles' heel at the World Cup and Cooper wasted no time trying to rectify his problems.

"I was just a bit disappointed with a few of the misses, I wanted to get out and practice a few [straight after the game]," Cooper said.

Cooper could still be selected at five-eighth, with Matt Giteau an option to take the kicking duties.

"I'm not too sure, I'm confident in my ability and I know that I have been kicking well at training," Cooper said when asked if he could be picked without the kicking duties.

"I made a few adjustments to what I was doing. For me, that's for the coaches to make their decision on."
