Hyne is set to make his comeback from a knee reconstruction when the Tuggeranong Vikings play against Easts in the last round of the regular season in the Canberra premier division.

It will be the first time Hyne has played since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during a National Rugby Championship game 10 months ago and it is hoped it will signal the restart of a promising career.

Hyne was heartbroken when the injury ruled him out of the entire Super Rugby season less than a month after he signed a one-year deal for the 2018 campaign.

It's understood the Brumbies have all but finalised a deal with Hyne, refusing to throw him on the scrap heap after just five games and backing him to make an impact when he returns.

"Ben has done an excellent job to get himself back to full fitness ... it's taken us all by surprise how quickly he's comeback and how confident he is," said Brumbies coach Dan McKellar.

"It's really important for us as a club that if the individual does the right thing [after injury] and shows they really want to be a part of our club, when you see that effort and sacrifice, you're comfortable rewarding it."

Hyne is another piece of the puzzle in place for the 2019 season, with McKellar expected to recruit at least two back-line weapons in the coming weeks and promote a host of talented Brumbies juniors.

Hyne's return from injury will help offset the departure of Isi Naisarani, who has joined the Melbourne Rebels, while Pete Samu will also link with the Brumbies next year.

The Brumbies struggled with back-row injury woes this year and were forced to call on club rugby reinforcements to ensure they had enough cover in the three positions.

David Pocock, Lachlan McCaffrey, Tom Cusack, Rob Valetini, Naisarani and Lolo Fakaosilea all missed games because of injury.

But Hyne was the unluckiest of the lot, forced to sit on the sidelines as part of his rehabilitation and waiting to find out if the Brumbies would offer him a chance to resurrect his career.

Hyne, who injured his ankle just four minutes into his debut in 2016 and has played just four games since, responded to the challenge and impressed the coaches enough to earn another shot at Super Rugby.

The first challenge will be playing for the Vikings in the last chance to hit form before the John I Dent Cup finals series begins next week.

"He's put on a couple of kilograms as well. We're pleased he's back, but we understand he's coming off injury so there are no expectations on him this week," McKellar said.

"He'll slowly get his timing back, but it's just pleasing to see Hyney come out the other end of a pretty serious injury.

"He's one of those players who just always plays tough. There's no hesitation on where he puts his head and at times he exposes himself to big collisions.

"We'll have six quality back-rowers next year and they'll challenge each other. Hyney is a good defender, excellent in the lineout and a smart footballer as well.

"It's exciting and you'd like to think the worst of his injuries are behind him now and he can string a few good years together."

Young guns Ryan Lonergan and Tom Ross are also on the radar for contract upgrades and the Brumbies are hopeful of finalising as early as this week a deal to keep Christian Lealiifano for one more season.
