The talented inside back won the Canberra Vikings player of the year award on Friday, firing a timely reminder to ACT Brumbies coach Dan McKellar that he's ready to step into the vacant No. 12 jersey next year.

Jackson-Hope has been largely forgotten about in the Brumbies selection talk for 2019 after the club recruited Irae Simone and NRL convert Tom Wright to bolster their inside-back ranks.

But the Australian junior representative made sure the Brumbies coaches knew he was still there was some brilliant attacking play in the NRC, taking a step up with 12 months left on his contract.

"My focus has always been to put my best foot forward for selection for the Brumbies," Jackson-Hope said.

"I definitely came into this season really determined and really wanting to go well. I see it as an opportunity in the No. 12 jumper and I wanted to put my hand up.

"Making my tackles has been a focus for me, obviously being an under-sized midfielder. I can't be [a liability] there, I have to make my tackles so we spoke about that.

"There's a long road ahead, it will be interesting to see how that battle goes in pre-season. It's up for grabs at the moment, you don't know what way the coaches are going to go."

Jackson-Hope was the clear winner of the player of the year prize for the Vikings, who were knocked out of NRC title contention by Fiji last weekend.

Young guns Darcy Swain and Len Ikitau won the best forward and best back, respectively, as they prepare to launch their individual Super Rugby careers with the Brumbies next year.

Brumbies players will be given a three-week break from training before they start their pre-Christmas block in November.

Wallabies players will return to training after Christmas, leaving a group of young guns to show their worth to McKellar and stake their claims for Super Rugby game time.

The Vikings who won individual man of the match awards, and got to take home an engraved axe for their efforts, during the seven-week season are evidence of the Brumbies' next generation.

Jackson-Hope, Swain, Ikitau, Ben Hyne, Tom Ross, Andy Muirhead and Connal McInerney are viewed as the future of the Brumbies and the players who will step up in the coming years.

Jackson-Hope was just happy to be on the field after an ankle injury ruined his NRC campaign last year, and in turn led to him playing just three games for the Brumbies.

"It was tough to watch the NRC last year. I wanted to take the opportunity this year with both hands, then put my hand up in pre-season games as well next year," Jackson-Hope said.

"I've got to figure out a point of difference with [Simone] because of his size, hopefully the coaches see that and want to go in that direction. I've got to make sure I'm performing well and playing within the coach's structure."
