This exhibition by Nyx Mathews, now on at ANCA Gallery, questions the material, atmospheric and experiential qualities of the artificial landscapes and interior spaces in which we are inevitably immersed, and investigates the tensions inherent in our bodily disruptions of them. Mathews graduated from the Gold and Silversmithing department at the ANU SoAD and creates small sculptural works out of a variety of materials including plaster, glass, brass, nickel and soap. Through speculative, materially ambiguous, often slightly unsteady objects, 2017 ANCA EASS Award recipient Mathews examines the interaction of anthropogenic environments and human beings. The exhibition continues until October 21.
