A group of men made a citizens' arrest after a violent run-in with the driver of a stolen van, court documents suggest.

The dramatic incident unfolded at the Wanniassa shops at 5pm on Thursday when a member of the public confronted Anthony Batcheldor, 26, and accused him of driving a stolen Ford.
It was the man's friend's van, and he knew it had been stolen so he pulled up close in front to stop it leaving the car park.
Mr Batcheldor allegedly reversed and rammed the van into two parked cars, causing one to crash into a playground wall.
The friend's two sons and another man ran over to help.
One opened the van's passenger side door but Mr Batcheldor kept reversing, and the van door knocked over one of the others who had come to help.
The first man got out of his car, approached the van and reached in to take the keys, but it is alleged Mr Batcheldor punched the man in the face, court documents say.
The others pulled Mr Batcheldor from the van "while the defendant resisted apprehension by swinging punches."
He allegedly bit one of the men trying to detain him.
"This altercation culminated in the defendant being successfully restrained on the ground," the documents say.
It's alleged members of the public heard two women, including Queanbeyan woman Kaitlin Lyons, 21, abusing the men holding Mr Batcheldor down.
Police arrived about 5.15pm and saw Mr Batcheldor being restrained on the ground by several members of the public.
He was conscious and breathing, but lying awkwardly. He appeared to be injured and was bleeding from his face.
Mr Batcheldor spent Thursday night in hospital and moved gingerly when he appeared in court on Friday morning.
He faced the ACT Magistrates Court charged with driving while disqualified, riding in a stolen car, and two counts of assault.
Ms Lyons was charged with riding in a stolen car and possession of stolen property.
Neither accused has entered pleas in relation to the incident.
The details of their alleged offending were set out in court documents tendered in support of opposition to their release.
Mr Batcheldor's Legal Aid duty lawyer told the court Mr Batcheldor conceded he knew the van was stolen and that he was unlicensed. But the lawyer had been instructed it was a member of the public who had first rammed the stolen van.
He said Mr Batcheldor said the van was being rammed and he was being encouraged by the two women inside when he reversed into the parked car. He was then "assaulted by members of the public" as several men descended on him.
But Magistrate Bernadette Boss refused the man bail, saying the allegations were serious, there was a strong prosecution case, he was already on conditional liberty, and he had a history of violence.
His criminal history was "significant and unrelenting."
In a separate court appearance, prosecutors opposed Ms Lyons' bail application on grounds she was likely to reoffend or would fail to reappear.
The court heard she had outstanding charges that had stalled due to her repeated failure to appear.
"She knows how the process works, she's not new to this," the prosecutor said.
Her Legal Aid duty defence lawyer said Ms Lyons was willing to comply with strict conditions if she was released.
Ms Lyons pleaded not guilty to charges of drug driving and stolen property that were already before the court.
Dr Boss refused bail.
Both cases will return to court next month.
The second woman will be summonsed to court at a later date.
