The motorcyclist was travelling east on the road about 9.55pm when a white Toyota Hilux pulled out in front of them, causing the bike to hit the back of the ute.
The driver stopped about 100 metres up the road from the crash before driving on without checking on the motorcyclist or leaving their details.
The motorcyclist was taken to Canberra Hospital as a precaution.
Police said they were looking for a white Toyota Hilux with a white tub tray and P plate on the back window.
"We believe the right hand side of the rear of the Hilux would have sustained damage in the collision," Traffic Operations' acting station sergeant Marcus Boorman said.
"If you were driving that vehicle, or were a passenger in that vehicle, you need to come forward and make contact with police by attending a police station or calling 131 444."
Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision or could identify the driver to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the ACT Crime Stoppers website with reference 6138400.
