Winter is coming in less than a month and we're definitely feeling it, having shivered through another sub-zero night. But this morning's patchy fog should clear to make way for a sunny day with a top of 17 degrees. Maximum temperatures are looking pretty similar for the rest of the week.
Let's see what's making news this Tuesday morning:
Problem gamblers call for less cass access

The sign advertises the cash machines that allow gamblers to keep withdrawing money after they've exhausted the $250 limit from the main ATMs.
At the Hellenic Club in Woden, Kirsten Lawson witnesses one gambler return twice within the space of a few minutes to withdraw hundreds of dollars in cash from the machines placed next to the darkened poker machine room.

Canberra's firefighting agency had trouble finding enough frontline firefighters to cover staff leave in the most recent financial year, causing a big overtime blowout.
In one year, overtime costs jumped 60 per cent to $4 million - that's more than $11,000 per firefighter.
The "unsustainable" bill has lead to the rollout of an action plan with a range of measures aimed at curbing the growing problem. I've got the story here.
How well do you know your road rules?

If you sometimes find yourself confused about whether you should give way at a crossing, you're not alone.
Intersections are the scene of half of all car crashes in Canberra, prompting police to target dangerous behaviour at crossings.
Running red lights and stop signs were the two most common offences made at intersections in 2016, ACT Policing data shows.
This is another one from me.
