Snook, who rose to international fame, or "infamy" as she says, following leaked footage showing her being told by colleague Amber Sherlock to put on a jacket ahead of an on-air appearance in January, is considered an up-and-coming star of the Nine Network.

Before #jacketgate caught the attention of every bored Australian scrolling through Facebook during their summer holidays, and then US comedian Jimmy Kimmel, Snook had earned a reputation for her tenacious work ethic.

"Anyone that has known me or worked with me in the last 10 years knows I can get pretty passionate about things especially professional decisions that have to be made," she told Fairfax Media.

The 29-year-old, who started her career in journalism at the Forbes Advocate, has been rising through the news making ranks for the past decade. After stints around regional Australia, including news directing and presenting at Canberra FM, Snook "got the call up" in 2013 and moved to Nine's Sydney newsroom.

"It wasn't a great example of how to make work decisions but if this happened even five years ago I think I would have reacted very differently. I hate confrontation but I've matured, mellowed and feel very comfortable with myself. You've got to be firm, you've got to back yourself," she said.

Prior to the viral clip being filmed she had already presented and helped put together sports bulletins for the morning and afternoon news segments as well as stories for the top-rating 6pm bulletin.

"Amber and I have always gotten along, we still do, nothing has changed," she said.

"Amber and I are two busy, professional women who just happened to find ourselves at the centre of something incredible. It was a busy day during a time when we were short staffed, the world reacted, not us, we just tried to get on with our jobs."

She said she has been "overwhelmed" with the support from people she's never met and is happy it sparked a conversation about women and the workplace.

Snook and Sherlock will be trackside at Royal Randwick for day two of The Championships on Saturday.

While veteran presenter Sherlock will be ensconced inside the Longines enclosure, Snook – who is loving her position within Nine's Sports team – has been invited by Racing NSW's Peter V'Landys to join racing royalty inside the exclusive Director's Suite.

Having grown up in Broken Hill and Parkes with her mother, who was a strapper for Warwick Farm racecourse, Snook grew up riding and competing in show jumping.

She won't be wearing white on Saturday, instead opting for a tweed dress by Cue that "reminds me of the jackets I used to wear to compete" and a hat by Wagga Wagga milliner Dianne Barbour.

"I love the races and the opportunity to promote country milliners. I just better make sure I don't stay too long catching up with everyone around the stables enjoying espresso martinis," she laughed.

Snook will be back to work early Sunday reporting courtside from Sunday's Super Netball match where the NSW Swifts will take on the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
